About Us
CAMTS is an organization of non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical services, with 19 current member organizations each of which sends one representative to the CAMTS Board of Directors, plus several Ad Hoc Subject Matter Experts.
The Commission believes that the two highest priorities of medical transport and Mobile Integrated Health Care services is quality patient care and safety.”
The Commission believes that the two highest priorities of an air medical or ground transport service are patient care and safety in ground, rotor wing, fixed wing, medical escort, special operations and Mobile Integrated Healthcare.
Originally developed through an extensive public comment process and published in 1991, revised every 2-3 years, the Accreditation Standards address issues of patient care and safety in fixed and rotary wing services as well as ground inter-facility services providing critical care transports. Each standard is supported by measurable criteria to measure a program’s level of quality.
Accreditation Standards are periodically revised to reflect the dynamic, changing environment of medical care and patient and staff safety with considerable input from all disciplines of the medical profession and serve as a marker of excellence for federal, state, and local governmental agencies, as well as private agencies and to the general public.
In order to obtain accreditation, a medical service must be in substantial compliance with the Accreditation Standards.

ANSI Accredited
The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems is proud to be an accredited American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) since 2017. CAMTS is one of less than 250 ANSI Accredited Standards Developers which includes such organization as the American Dental Association (ADA), Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and the Nation Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Because the Standards are written for accreditation purposes only, they are not intended to be ANSI approved standards, however the Standards are updated using the ANSI Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for American National Standards.
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a private, non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the United States voluntary standards and conformity assessment system. Founded in 1918, the Institute works in close collaboration with stakeholders from industry and government to identify and develop standards and conformance-based solutions to national and global priorities. The hallmarks of the ANSI process ensure the development of standards are done in a manner that is equitable, accessible, and responsive.
