CAMTS Board Meeting – April 2-4, 2009
The Board of Directors met for three days in San Antonio in conjunction with the CCTMC conference. Ms Frazer and Ms Corbett also conducted a workshop entitled “Preparing For Accreditation” following the Board meeting. Dr. Ralph Rogers, Chair, introduced Dr. Nicholas Lezama, the new AsMA representative and welcomed back Dr. Mike Brunko, representing AMPA. There were 20 accreditation deliberations and nine progress reports reviewed by the full Board. There were also 36 progress reports reviewed by the Executive Committee. BUDGET Mr. Dudley Smith, Treasurer and Ms Corbett, Associate Executive Director, discussed the 2010 fiscal year budget and the new systems put into place through our accountant. Budget approval will take place at the July Board meeting. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT Ms Frazer provided the Board with a written Executive Director report since time was critical at this meeting. In the written report, Ms Frazer provided a synopsis of her recent presentations and testimony at the NTSB hearings in February. In addition to presenting at EMS Today, Ms Frazer was a guest speaker at the mid-west FAA Safety Team HEMS meeting in March where she was presented with an award for the Hazards of Helicopter Shopping video that was produced by CAMTS in 2008. Ms Frazer also provided an update on the fatigue study plans and the textbook. Articles of Incorporation and By-Law changes were discussed. Ms Frazer will follow-up with the corporate attorney in PA and get the final drafts out to the Board before the next meeting. VALUES APPROVED The Board also finalized changes to the mission statement and approved the CAMTS Values, Vision and Transport Organization Expectations as follows. This will be posted on our website. Mission Statement CAMTS is a peer review organization dedicated to improving patient care and transport safety by providing a dynamic accreditation process through the development of standards, education, and services that support our vision. Vision Statement All patients are transported safely by qualified personnel using the appropriate mode of transport. CAMTS Values
Transport Organization Expectations
PRESENTATIONS Ms Mary Holtschneider, AACN representative, provided a presentation on HPS education proposal by the University of Texas - School of Nursing. Several other transport service education initiatives were also discussed as well as the military’s. It was decided to invite speakers to the next Board meeting to discuss standardizing HPS education criteria for initial and ongoing medical transport personnel. Ms Terry Palmer, Aviation Advisor from JHSIT, presented a marketing technique for website sales and also presented “Return on Investment”, a profile designed by Sikorsky executives. Mr. Bruce Tesmer and Dr. John Overton presented “Threat and Error Management” and future ideas for use in the accreditation process. Ms Kimberly Turner from AEROSAFE, presented an “Industry Risk Profile” that was funded by Bell Helicopters and asked for comments and feedback from Board members. Ms Karen Rogers provided a report on the site survey schedule and site visits as well as the continued internal QM process. The Board also appointed a small committee to discuss levels of accreditation and bring their recommendations to the next Board meeting.
